Face care 101

Understanding the basics

Our faces are one of the most important contributor to our looks and confidence, yet the very skin on our faces are much more sensitive than others. As such, we have to clean and wash our face to remove the dirt, dust and make up before they manifest into something else. Then, we need to apply supplements to ensure that our faces are well taken care of.

As every skin type is different, we need to know which type of each product suits the skin and how to customize our own routine rather than buying the standard sets and packages. They tend to have bundle discounts but you may end up with having only some of the products suitable for you.

Day

cleanser

Step 1: Cleanser

Different skin types require different cleansing agents to cleanse the skin properly without aggravating it. Oily or acne prone skin should use foaming liquid type. Dry, red or eczema prone skin should use cream or lotion type. Sensitive skin should use oil base. Any other skin types can use micellar water type.

How to: Remove any make up and cleanse your skin. Rinse your face with water, then apply the cleanser in circular motion. After cleansing, rinse off with water.

toner

Step 2: Toner

Toner helps to prime your skin for better absorption of the products that you will be applying later. As each skin type is different, you do need to know which is your skin type before you can select the appropriate type of toner for your skin. For dry acne prone skin, you should use AHA type. Oily acne prone skin should use BHA. Dry skin type should use hyaluronic acid type.

How to: Put some toner on a facial cotton. Use the cotton to apply the toner evenly across your face through an outward direction motion.

serum

Step 3: Serums

There are many different kinds of serums and this is where most brands will exhaust their product range at. The main reason is because serums are the heavy lifters in the entire skin care routine. Serums are concentrated products that helps to supplement nutrients to your skin.

For day serums, we would recommend Vitamin C serums to protect your skin through the day.

eye cream

Step 4: Eye Cream

As the skin around our eye are the thinnest and most sensitive on our face, we need to take good care of them. Eye creams tend to be lighter than the usual moisturizer and hence should be applied first.

For day eye cream, we would suggest those with vitamin c and/or caffeine.

Step 5: Treatments

Now is the time to fix any issues on the skin, such as spots or acne. For dark spots or acne scars, we would suggest to use vitamin c or vitamin b3 (niacinamide) to decrease dark spots with consistent application. For acne skin, we would suggest to use colloidal sulphur or niacinamide to calm the skin and reduce inflammation while improving acne conditions.

moisturizer

Step 6: Moisturizer

One of the most important steps, in both day and night routine. This helps to hydrate your skin to give it a healthy and radiant look.

For day moisturizer, we would recommend hyaluronic based moisturizer.

sunscreen

Step 7: sunscreen

This is the most important step in the day routine, you need to apply sunscreen to prevent the heat and sun from damaging your skin. Sunscreen can help to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, changes in pores and at times, potentially skin cancer!

We recommend minimally an SPF of 30 for your sun screen.

make up

Step 8: Make up

After waiting for 5 minutes to let your skin care settle in, you are now ready for the last part, the make up!
